Cosmetic Surgery Stay in Tunisia - How Your Care Is Organised

Medical stay

Your medical stay in Tunisia, step by step

From your first message to your flight home, exactly how your care is organised.

If you live in France, Belgium, Switzerland, Canada, the United Kingdom, North Africa, the Gulf or French-speaking West Africa and are considering cosmetic surgery in Tunis, we organise each medical stay individually, from the first conversation through to remote follow-up, so that you do not have to deal with the logistics alone.

Dr Achraf Daoud, cosmetic surgeon, accompanies you personally at every stage. No operation is scheduled without a medical examination, a pre-operative work-up and an anaesthetic consultation. The timeline below is a guide: your surgeon adapts it to your situation, to the procedure planned and to your health.

The stages of your care

  1. D-30

    1. First contact and online quote

You complete our online pre-operative questionnaire: the procedure you have in mind, your medical history and current medication. It allows us to guide you and send a first estimate, without obligation. A member of our team replies to you personally.

  2. D-21

    2. Teleconsultation with the surgeon

Dr Daoud meets you by video call to understand your expectations, review the photographs you have sent and explain what may be possible. She also sets out the limits and risks of the procedure. This conversation does not replace the in-person clinical examination, which remains essential.

  3. D-15

    3. Personalised quote and written surgical plan

You receive a detailed quote and a written surgical plan: the technique envisaged, the length of the hospital stay, the recommended length of your stay in Tunis and your preparation instructions. Take the time to read it and to ask us anything. The decision is yours, with no pressure, and the plan may change after the examination on site.

  4. D-7

    4. Pre-operative work-up and preparation

Depending on your age and medical history, we ask for blood tests and, where needed, a cardiology or anaesthetic opinion, which you can arrange close to home. We advise you on stopping smoking and nicotine, and on stopping blood-thinning medication, within the timescales prescribed. Never stop long-term treatment without the advice of the doctor who prescribed it.

  5. D-2

    5. Booking: dates, flights, hotel and pickup

Once your medical file is approved, we set the date of surgery. We advise you on flight dates, book the partner hotel for you and your companion, and arrange your airport pickup. We recommend a flexible ticket, as a postponement remains possible if your health requires it.

  6. D-1

    6. Arrival in Tunis and consultations on site

A driver meets you at Tunis-Carthage airport and takes you to your hotel. Dr Daoud examines you in consultation, confirms the indication and finalises the surgical plan. The day before surgery, you meet the anaesthetist for the anaesthetic consultation. If either of them feels the operation should be postponed, we postpone it.

  7. Surgery day

    7. The day of surgery at the accredited clinic

You are welcomed at an accredited private clinic, where the surgical and anaesthetic team take over your care. The operation takes place in the operating theatre, with continuous monitoring by the anaesthetic team. Your companion is kept informed, and you remain in the clinic under observation after the operation.

  8. D+1 to D+7

    8. Recovery days and check-ups

Depending on the procedure, you spend one or more nights in the clinic, then move to the hotel to convalesce. Dressings are changed and healing is checked at regular appointments. A check-up takes place before you leave, and your surgeon confirms you are fit to fly based on how you are recovering, not on a date set in advance.

  9. D+8 onwards

    9. Returning home and 12 months of remote follow-up

Once home, you stay in touch with our team by message and video call: follow-up photographs, questions about aftercare, progress of healing. This remote follow-up continues for 12 months. If you are worried or notice anything unusual, contact us without delay and, if the situation requires it, we will advise you to see a doctor or emergency service near you.

Travel and airport
The flight from Paris to Tunis takes about 2 hours 30 minutes, and many cities in Europe, North Africa and the Gulf have connections to Tunis-Carthage airport (TUN). Les Berges du Lac 2 is roughly a 15-minute drive from the airport, depending on traffic.
Entry requirements
Nationals of EU countries and most Maghreb countries can generally stay in Tunisia without a visa for a short visit. Rules depend on your nationality and can change: check the requirements that apply to you before booking, and make sure your passport is valid.
Currency and payments
The currency is the Tunisian dinar (TND). Bank cards are widely accepted in Tunis, including in hotels and shops. The dinar cannot be obtained outside the country: you exchange or withdraw it on arrival.
Languages
Arabic is the official language. French is very widely spoken and understood, and English is spoken within our practice and by our team.
When to travel
Surgery can be planned throughout the year. Sun exposure should be avoided while you heal: in summer, heat and strong sun call for extra care, and we discuss this with you when choosing the date.
Insurance
We recommend taking out travel insurance and a policy that covers medical complications abroad, and reading its exclusions carefully, as some policies do not cover cosmetic surgery. Check with your insurer before you leave.

Frequently asked questions about the stay

How long is a stay for cosmetic surgery in Tunis?

It depends on the procedure and on how you recover. As a guide, expect roughly 7 to 14 days on site, including pre-operative consultations. Your surgeon states the recommended length in your surgical plan and confirms it before you travel.

Can I travel alone, or should I bring a companion?

You can travel alone, but we strongly recommend bringing a companion, especially for the first few days. After an anaesthetic you will need help moving around, getting ready and following your instructions. If you are travelling alone, tell us in advance so that we can adapt the arrangements.

When can I safely fly home?

There is no guaranteed date. Depending on the procedure, a return flight is generally considered after a week or more, based on a clinical check-up. Your surgeon examines you and confirms you are fit to travel before you finalise your return ticket.

What happens if my recovery takes longer than expected?

We extend your stay. Oedema, a haematoma or slower healing sometimes need more monitoring, and safety comes before the calendar. This is why we advise a flexible ticket and a margin of a few days in your plans.

Who can I contact at night during my stay?

While you are in the clinic, the nursing team is present around the clock. At the hotel, we give you before discharge the details of a contact who can be reached for urgent questions. In a life-threatening emergency, call the local emergency services immediately.

How does follow-up work once I am back home?

We remain available by message and video call for 12 months. You send photographs at agreed intervals, and the surgeon assesses healing and answers your questions. Where appropriate, we may also advise a check with a local doctor.

What should I do if a complication appears after I return?

Contact us without delay, with photographs if possible. If symptoms are worrying (fever, increasing pain, marked swelling, bleeding, difficulty breathing), see a doctor or go to an emergency department near you straight away and let us know. We liaise with the doctor treating you so that your care is coordinated.

Can my companion share my hotel room?

Yes. Partner-hotel accommodation is arranged for the patient and one companion, who may share the same room. Tell us when you book so that we reserve a suitable room.
